(The Hill) — The College Board announced on Thursday that Florida has banned AP Psychology from its schools over lessons pertaining to gender identity and sexual orientation. The course was nixed after Florida passed a law earlier this year stating sexual orientation and gender identity could not be taught in K-12 schools. Florida asked College Board to go over any classes it offers and omit lessons that conflict with its new law, but the company has refused.“We have heard from teachers across Florida who are heartbroken that they are being forced to drop AP and instead teach alternatives that have been deemed legal because the courses exclude these topics,” College Board said in its statement. HealthPartners has vacated its office space in the Great Northern Building in downtown St. Paul.The lease officially ended in May 2023.The decision came after workers started going remote during the pandemic, according to company officials. The site had been used for administrative support. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An Albany man accused of driving high while in possession of a loaded handgun was arrested early on Thursday morning. Dave Byrd, 27, was charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third degree, and one count of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. Police say investigations began after reports of a person in possession of a weapon in the area of Dana Avenue and Lark Street. Officers observed a vehicle matching the description and conducted a traffic stop in the area of Washington Avenue and Robin Street.The driver, Byrd, appeared to be under the influence of marijuana. Police also located a loaded 9mm handgun. (NEWS10)--At the State Education Department in Albany, Governor Kathy Hochul announced $108 million dollars in grants to help kids with learning loss from pandemic."$100 million will be going directly to school districts and BOCES to hire more teachers specializing in managing and counteracting learning loss, because we have to stop the hemorrhaging there. BOLTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) - A disease threatening one of the Adriondack Park's most commonly-sighted trees has reared its head. Last week, the Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program (APIPP) reported a confirmed case of beech leaf disease in the area of Edgecomb Pond. It's the first case of the disease in Warren County. The disease is thought to be connected to a nematode worm that enters trees through stomate cells on leaves, which emit gas. ST. LOUIS - A 16-year-old is in custody in connection with a mass shooting in downtown St. Louis that left one teenager dead and 11 other people injured.The shooting took place just before 1 a.m. on June 19, at a party on the fifth floor of an office building near Washington Avenue and 14th Street. Investigators with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said the event was organized on social media.Eleven teenagers between the ages of 15 and 19 were shot. One of the victims, 17-year-old Makao Moore, died. A 17-year-old girl was trampled while fleeing from the scene and suffered minor injuries.In the hours after the shooting, police said the party was by invite only and officers are investigating how the teens gained access to the building. ST. LOUIS – Richard Sprengeler, a fine art and commercial photographer, took pictures of the ghostly remains of American sculptor Bob Cassilly's last work, Cementland. Sprengeler's pictures are on display at the main branch of the Central Library in Downtown St. Louis.He said that he stumbled upon the site after meeting a drone photographer on Laclede’s Landing, who provided him with information about the entrance to Cementland. Sprengeler said he had a passion for capturing urban decay and architectural marvels. That drove him to explore the neglected site.“As a fine art photographer and as a commercial photographer, I capture a lot of architecture, it's kind of my specialty,” he said. “I've been photographing St. Louis for 40 years, and I've done all sorts of different aspects of St. Louis and the most recent one I've been doing urban decay. Two men are lucky to have survived getting lost in California's Death Valley National Park.On July 4, the men were driving through the park in a Chevrolet sedan when they took a wrong turn while navigating by GPS, park officials said.They drove back and forth on a gravel road for about three hours in the dark.“Around midnight, they became concerned about running out of gas and decided to drive directly across the salt flat to Badwater Road,” the National Park Service said.It didn’t work.The men's car got stuck in the mud as they tried to find Badwater Road.
